Unlike the original games, creations no longer need to be shaped with additional intelligence in order to be controlled directly by the player - that is now automatic. There are new spells, such as Essence Shield and Airshock, new equipment like the Spary Baton and Purifying Blade, and new content found in old zones of the game. While the setting and story of Geneforge Mutagen are mostly the same as the original, the gameplay has been completely re-designed from the ground up.
